Bowling Success. In the 50 years from 1947 to 1997 four individuals dominated the Club championship - Jim Smith, Willie Bell, Mary Lindsay and Jenny Emmerson. Jim Smith was champion seven times between 1947 and 1975 and was the
gamekeeper at Baddinsgill during this period. He was always supportive
of new players and presented a trophy played annually by first year
bowlers. Between 1974 and 1986 Mary Lindsay was champion no fewer than eight times. Mary was famous not only for her bowling process, but for her saying which members still quote today. As Mary would view an opponents bowl wicking into the head and lying shot, she would loudly proclaim "Wid ye luk at that". Jenny Emmerson was ladies champion seven times between 1984 and 1997 and in addition to being a former County Champion and competing in the SWBA National Championships, she is a qualified Club Coach. |
