John's PathWalk B3 - John's Path And The Old Coach Road Linear Walk

Time - 2 hours; Distance - 10 km/6 miles

A pretty walk along a river bank and then along the old Coach Road between Blyth Bridge and West Linton, with good paths and varied landscape, combining two of the 'Tweed Trails'  Note – June 2009 – midway along the Tarth Water section, the path has been washed away. it is still passable, but only by the sure footed.

Flemingrton Burn ValleyWalk B4 - Newlands-Flemington Burn Circular Walk

Time - 2 hours 30 minutes; Distance - 11 km/6.5 miles

A stunning walk along the Lyne valley in hill fort country, then out into wilder terrain, followed by a downhill stretch with fantastic views across to West Linton. The route follows good paths, well waymarked all the way round.

Start/finish - Newlands Kirk, on B7059 near Romanno Bridge

Park in the car parking area opposite Newlands Kirk, on the B7059 road to Peebles 1.5 km south of the A701 at Romanno Bridge. To the right of the church grounds, follow a farm track (signposted 'Peebles via Flemington Burn')...

View from West KipWalk B5 - Ninemileburn And West Kip

Time - 2 hours; Distance - 10km/6miles

A great circular walk on good paths taking you up to the top of West Kip at 55m if you so wish – you could leave this bit out and still have a great walk but you’d miss out on the fine views all around.

Start/Finish - Ninemileburn

Start from the north end of Ninemileburn where the minor road turns through 90 degrees. Enter a field via a gate, following the signpost to 'Balerno by Monk’s Rig and Braid Law'.  Follow the edge of the field and over the style at the top end, then turn right.  After 50m, you reach a two-way signpost. Continue ahead over another style following the 'Braid Law' sign....

Pond at MedwynbankWalk B6 – Prehistoric Walk from Dolphinton to West Linton

Time – 2 hours; Distance – 7.5 km/4.5 miles (one way)

A long walk back to West Linton from Dolphinton via Garvald through a prehistoric landscape containing much evidence of early occupation including ornaments of gold and other metals, ritual and burial sites and arrow heads.  This walk includes notes on landmarks of historic interest along the way originally prepared by the West Linton Tourist Group.  The route can form the return leg of a circular walk done in conjunction with walk B7 – ‘Historic Walk to Dolphinton’

View to Baddinsgill reservoirWalk B8 – Mendick Hill

Time – 2 hours minutes; Distance – 6.5 km/4 miles (one way)

Another classic West Linton walk up the village’s own hill.  The walk is traditionally done on New Year's Day and would certainly clear the head and get the circulation going.  The track to the foot of the hill is level and easy, but it is a bit of slog up to the top with no clear path to follow.

Start/finish – West Linton

Leaving the village, turn left onto the A702 heading south and take the first turning right signposted to Baddinsgill.  Proceed up the road for 1 km then turn left (footpaths signposted to 'Dolphinton, Dunsyre and Garvald', and 'Boston Cottage'), pass the Golf Club and walk straight on along the tarmac road...

View to Carlops from Patie's HillWalk B9 - Patie's Hill

Time - 2 hours minutes; Distance - 7 km/4.5 miles

A circular walk from Carlops taking in Patie's Hill, which is only 435 metres high but has 'bangs per buck' in terms of its views. The well way-marked route passes via a plantation of native trees and wetland that will surely become a local beauty spot and a fine restored sheep pen.

Start/finish – Carlops Car Park

From the car park, walk to the north-east end of the village. Just before the last house on the left, turn down a track (signposted 'Buteland by the Borestane') and pass Patie's Mill. The footpath goes round to the right of the mill and alongside its garden, emerging by the North Esk River through a gate. Once past the gate, bear slightly right and uphill...
