Passed a huge pile of wood on the far side of the green yesterday - any ideas about the start time for the 2009 bonfire/fireworks?

Will worry about 2010 next year!!! :)

Re: Septic tank desludge!

Seems to be most folk go with the 'if it isn't broke don't fix it' approach with tanks - others advise on a regular desludge! I guess it depends on how many folk are using the system and what is being put down the drains! We had a problem with our tank just after we moved in (1999) - it was also a h...

Septic tank desludge!

Hello all

I use Scottish Water for my tank empty/clean; on a programmed contract at around 120.00 GBP a time.

One of the neighbours needs a tank emptied - Scottish Water are saying 28 days+ and around 220.00 GBP for a one off.

Any alternatives you can recommend?

Hello Cat's whiskers I don't believe any sane person would choose to live or send their kids to a school next door to 300K+ chickens and surrounded by fields that are to be used as the chickens toilets. Interesting you and the NFUS pick up on 'Bio Security' as being a big issue re the AFA 'expose' -...

Hello Cat's whiskers I don't think I linked the speed limit on the A701 through Romanno Bridge with the proposal to build another Ten factory sheds on Blythbank farm; I mentioned speeding when you asked did I have any other pet hates! Back to the Whim Chicken welfare accusations - http://www.thepoul...

Hello Cat's whiskers It does matter that folk should 'want to' travel at a safe speed past the school and through the village - otherwise they will be tempted to speed; which lots of them still do! Personally I'd rather not see the Chickens that Glenrath house for egg production in cages (as per the...

Hello all Red2 - no need to read between any lines! Your correct - there are lots of issues I don't like about the proposed factory on the edge of Romanno Bridge and yes I do my bit elsewhere on similar and other issues. I guess this proposal being so close by its hardly surprising it becomes more p...

Hello Cat's whiskers I'm not sure that its True that lots of smaller less intense Producers couldn't satisfy demand - and in turn create employment for a lot more than two hundred folk in and around the Borders. What the small producers couldn't do is meet the price demands of the Supermarkets but t...

Hello both If someone feels the hedge is causing a problem I'll give it a trim - probably need the exercise anyway :) And I can understand someone who cares about animal welfare seeing the move from the hell hole at Whim to a more modern facility in the New factory Shed at Blythbank as a positive mo...

Hello Cat's whiskers If you care about animal welfare I would have thought it did matter that Glenrath are only changing policy because they have to - not because they want to. Many folk seem to be willing to pay a premium for products with higher animal welfare credentials whilst others completely ...

Hello Cat's whiskers If the rules weren't changing Glenrath would not be lifting a finger in terms of laying out on new sheds and better conditions for the chickens. If companies are going to Factory Farm and folk want to buy the stuff then its going to go on but using the Freerange label is a joke ...

Hello Cat's whiskers I bet the chickens cant wait to get out of the cages and into a huge factory warehouse; sounds most inviting!!! I note Glenrath were only worried about the wrong sort of folk getting onto their payroll - no apologies to the chickens for stuffing them into cages! Like you I found...
