10 days? That's just ridiculous. They're digging a big trench and laying a couple of large diameter pipes across a bit of road and then backfilling, consolidating and reinstating the carriageway. How the feck does that need ten days when Boeing can assemble an entire 747 in just five. Thousands of f...

Consumer GPS units available to Joe Public can only decode non-encrypted GPS signals, and will give you a position anywhere between 7 and 15 metres from your target on a good day. From a practical standpoint, the person logging the positions of graves is going to have to be using a military GPS unit...

Saltire in the hills

Not a huge amount of action in the forum at all these days. If it carries on like this I can imagine Steve just binning it. Anyway, it was a grand morning for a wander past Baddingsgill and out towards the Cauldstane Slap. Sticking out of a cairn beside the path and tied onto a makeshift flagpole wa...

Domestic arrivals

Tricky final approach into the new runway at West Linton. Baggage reclaim is just across the white airbridge. 8)

I wondered where these had gone!

Visitscotland are having a clear out and sent me some old B/W negs they thought I might like back. I remember taking these but I thought I'd lost them. Wee bit of an uneven process round the frame edges on the Tri-X film as well I notice. I must've been in a hurry that day. Early Smiddy with the &qu...

Crane at Calm

It's not every day you see a fifty tonne mobile crane squeezing itself along narrow Croft Road. This was closely followed by a couple of artics loaded with large concrete beams to form the 1st floor of the new salon as well as a preformed concrete staircase. These were all lifted up over the roof of...

Political correctness and history

Lifted from another place, original provenance unknown.... Nelson: "Order the signal, Hardy." Hardy: "Aye, aye sir." Nelson: "Hold on, that's not what I dictated to Flags. What's the meaning of this?" Hardy: "Sorry sir?" Nelson (reading aloud): "' England...

I get that dark blue section as well Steve. It shows with Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer. And I've wondered about the logging in twice thing as well. The screengrab below shows what I can see. It sounds and maybe looks the same as what MS is meaning. http://www.photoscotland.com/snaps/wlfscree...

It nearly worked

A few pics of the rideout going through the ford. I'd hoped to see lots of water flying but the majority of riders were moving too slowly. However there were a few towards the end that were moving at a bit more respectable speed. Ach you win some and you lose some. btw Steve, I tried to upload these...

Reality versus superstition

Under current circumstances it would of course be churlish of me to continue this on the previous threid. However CW said:

Cat's Whiskers wrote:- and prayer does make a difference!

Bold statement.

I'm wondering if you can cite any provable precedents CW?

I too hope that the child is returned/found safe and well, the wee sowel must be utterly terrified. Fingers crossed that the £1.5M reward is a strong enough incentive. I'm rather surprised though that people haven't been more critical of the parents for leaving children of that age on their own. The...

That must've been some letter you sent to BRC Will. I see all the recent pointing is being removed from the war memorial, presumably to be replaced with proper and matching lime mortar.

Excellenty.
