Saturday 25 October 2008 - Carlops Village Centre
A Ronald Stevenson Evening
2008 is a very special year in the musical life of West Linton, as it marks the 80th birthday of Ronald Stevenson, who has been at the musical heart of our community for many years. Ronald is widely regarded as one of the greatest living composers and his birthday is being celebrated widely. Ronald is also the Music Society's honorary president and so our first event will be a special concert devoted to Ronald and his music. We have a number of performers and special guests taking part, both professional and amateur. We don't want to give much away, but this should be a very memorable evening.
The concert will be preceded by a dinner in Carlops Village Hall - details of this event are available from committee members.

Kate Durran - Piano, Stephen Stirling - French Horn
Kate is one of our favourite pianists and has played for the Society before in other guises. We are delighted to welcome Kate back and this season, she and horn player Stephen Stirling are presenting a programme entitled 'The Romantic French Horn', featuring music for French Horn and Piano by Beethoven, Schumann, Saint-Saens, Poulenc and Dukas, with Romantic piano miniatures by Fauré, Chopin, Granados, Bartok and Gershwin.

Sean Shibe - Guitar
Sean, still only 16 years old, already has years of performing experience behind him, supported by a great education at both the City of Edinburgh and Aberdeen City Music Schools. Sean is taking up a place at RSAMD this year, studying under Allan Neave. He will be the youngest ever musician to enter the Academy. In April 2008 Sean took part in his first senior international guitar competition in Germany, winning a place in the final. In May he was a recipient of the prestigious Donald Dewar Arts Award. He is without doubt destined for great things and his playing has been described as "phenomenal".
Saturday 6 February 2009 - St Mungo's Church, West Linton
Barbirolli Quartet
We are very lucky once again to be awarded a concert by 2008's Tunnell Trust winners, the Barbirolli Quartet. Formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2003, this young quartet are building a formidable international reputation and we are very fortunate to have them come to West Linton at the beginning of what will certainly be a great career. The group will play quartets by Haydn, Debussy and Berg.
Saturday 21 March 2009 -- St Mungo's Church, West Linton
Ivan Ilic - Piano
A rising star on the Parisian classical music scene, young pianist Ivan Ilic is quickly gaining international recognition for his "unique blend of a Gallic touch, a Slavic soul and a Mathematician's precision." Recent reviews have described him as "an unforgettable pianist", and his playing as "a lesson in elegance" and, simply, "staggering". Need we say more? Ivan will be playing music by Beethoven, Liszt, Debussy and Rachmaninoff.
